Sumter EMC maintains a 24-hour emergency dispatch center in Americus and has qualified technicians on-call year-round throughout the service area. Because Sumter EMC is a locally-owned cooperative, we are knowledgeable about your employees, contractors, and facilities. The board of directors and President/CEO are accessible to you when needed, and can make decisions quickly based upon local conditions. In addition to delivering reliable, affordable electric energy, Sumter EMC offers outdoor lighting solutions which are economical compared to ownership of poles and fixtures by the member. Maintenance of poles, fixtures, bulbs, and cables is included in our rates, which allows the business owner to concentrate on their core business and maximize profitability. Our lighting systems are designed with the latest software tools, and we use materials that will provide many years of attractive appearance. Effective outdoor lighting not only improves security, but also attracts customers to retail establishments due to better visibility and appearance. Where an outdoor lighting system is installed on a single premise and Sumter EMC determines that sufficient economies of scale in the construction, operation, and maintenance of the system will be realized (minimum 10 fixtures per service run), the EMC may waive the monthly pole maintenance and/or transformer charges published in our standard outdoor lighting rates. For parking lots and street lighting applications of sufficient size, the cost of the outdoor lighting system provided by Sumter EMC may be equal to or less than the cost of construction and energy if served from the member's electric panels.
