Sales Tax Exemption

Sumter EMC would like to remind area farmers to check their eligibility for an exemption from sales tax on all fuels, including electricity, purchased for use in poultry houses, for operating an irrigation system for farm crops, for greenhouses where floral products and other plants are grown for resale, and on fuels used for agricultural purposes. Without exception the electricity must be metered separately for the exemption to apply.

The farmer is responsible for notifying Sumter EMC of his property's eligibility and must complete and return to Sumter EMC a Georgia Department of Revenue Sales and Use Tax Division Certificate of Exemption.
