LOOMING ELECTRICITY CRISIS! America is facing a looming electricity crisis! The climate change and greenhouse gas emissions legislation currently being debated in Congress will have a profound impact on our future power supply. Legislation that is poorly designed could have a disastrous impact on both the cost and reliability of electric power.

Click here for the full report of the testimony given by Mr. Glenn English, CEO, National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, before the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Subcommittee on Energy and the Environment on April 23, 2009. Mr. English emphasized the critical need for our federal legislators to make sure that any climate change legislation balances environmental concerns with the public's need for reliable, affordable electric power.

If you agree that electricity is not a luxury, but a necessity, and should be reliable and affordable for all Americans, join the debate and make your voice heard. To get involved and learn more about how climate change and renewable resource legislation will affect the price and reliability of your electric power visit www.ourenergy.coop and send a message to your legislators. For additional information on the potential impact of global climate change policy proposals, visit the Electric Power Research Institute's web site.

The Corporation is headquartered in Americus with a branch office in Leesburg.

Sumter EMC is a service cooperative and is owned by those it serves. The EMC operation is based upon the principles that membership is open and voluntary, that members control the corporation, and that electric service is provided at cost to the members.

Members help decide how the EMC operates. Each year Sumter EMC holds an annual meeting of members to conduct business. Part of this meeting includes the election of the Board of Directors. The Board represents Sumter EMC members by setting policy for operations.
